Corridor care in the NHS
Early day motion 1113, tabled 4 November 2026 by Helen Morgan (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 1 member.
That this House expresses dismay that corridor care has become normalised in NHS hospitals; notes the harm caused to patients from receiving care in inappropriate settings; believes every patient has a right to privacy and dignity; further notes that over 15,000 deaths were associated with long A&E waits in 2025; also notes that staff morale and retention has been devastated by having to provide care in unacceptable, dangerous and undignified conditions; condemns the previous Government for driving emergency services into the ground and allowing corridor care to spiral out of control; recognises that corridor care rates have hit their highest ever levels, with nearly 100,000 instances of corridor care recorded in England in September 2026; further expresses alarm that this figure is likely to rise as the annual winter crisis hits in the NHS in coming months; notes the long delay in publishing corridor care data in the first instance; calls for investment in step-down care, social care and community support to free up thousands of hospital beds and tackle the A&E crisis; and further calls on the Government to protect patients, prevent needless tragedy and end the scandal of 12 hour waits and corridor care within a year.
