Abolition of the slave trade

Early day motion 1104, tabled 3 November 2026 by Gregory Campbell (DUP). Signed by 1 member.

That this House notes the ongoing commentary regarding the slave trade which existed for centuries among many civilisations; understands that there is a desire to see formal acknowledgement of the pain and humiliation that many suffered over that prolonged time period; expresses the hope that there will be an acknowledgement that it was a number of UK campaigners including William Wilberforce MP who continued the parliamentary campaign against the British slave trade for 20 years until the passage of the Slave Trade Act 1807; and further notes that Wilberforce's Christian faith also led him to campaign for wider moral reform of society.
