Usdaw's Respect for Shopworkers Week

Early day motion 1100, tabled 3 November 2026 by Chris Kane (Labour). Signed by 1 member.

That this House recognises Usdaw's Respect for Shopworkers Week, taking place from 9 to 15 November 2026; notes the unacceptable levels of violence, threats and abuse faced by retail workers across the United Kingdom; welcomes the collaboration between Usdaw, the National Business Crime Centre, the Association of Convenience Stores and the Retail Trust to promote respect for shopworkers and tackle retail crime; further welcomes the introduction of measures in the Crime and Policing Act, including the creation of a standalone offence of assaulting a shop worker, the removal of the £200 shoplifting threshold and the introduction of Respect Orders; believes that no worker should face intimidation, abuse or violence simply for doing their job; acknowledges the vital contribution that shopworkers make to local communities and the economy; and calls on employers, enforcement agencies, policymakers and the public to work together to ensure that retail staff are treated with dignity, respect and safety at work.
