Remembrance Day 2026

Early day motion 1096, tabled 3 November 2026 by James MacCleary (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 1 member.

That this House recognises the enormous debt owed to those who serve, or have served, in the British Armed Forces, and the sacrifices they have made to keep the country safe; notes that the transition from military to civilian life remains inadequately supported; is concerned that both the previous Government and current Government have failed to deliver the recognition and support that service personnel and veterans deserve; further recognises the impact that this has on recruitment and retention to the Armed Forces; calls on the Government to work with national sporting bodies including the Football Association, the Rugby Football Union, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and others to deliver a Salute to Service programme honouring service personnel and veterans through fixtures throughout the year; further calls on the Government to introduce a Military Homes Standard for the estimated 80,000 troops living in Single Living Accommodation, providing legal protections equivalent to those in the civilian rental sector; also calls for the introduction of a free Veterans Railcard for a period of five years for those who have left the Armed Forces within the past year; urges the Government to disregard military compensation payments under the War Pension and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme as income for benefit assessment purposes; and calls for the introduction of a statutory employment preference for veterans entering the civilian workforce to protect and strengthen their existing priority in job hunting.
