Proposed redundancies at Smurfit Westrock in Lurgan

Early day motion 954, tabled 14 October 2026 by Sorcha Eastwood (Alliance). Signed by 2 members.

That this House expresses deep concern at Smurfit Westrock’s proposal to make 55 workers redundant at its Lurgan site in Lagan Valley, a third of the workforce; notes that it is vital that these highly skilled manufacturing jobs are kept within Lagan Valley given the significant economic value they provide to Northern Ireland; calls on hon. Members to support these workers; and urges the Government to work with the Northern Ireland Executive and Invest NI to intervene to safeguard these critical jobs.

Signatures by party: Alliance 1, DUP 1.
