Cable Street 90th anniversary

Early day motion 952, tabled 14 October 2026 by Apsana Begum (Labour). Signed by 32 members.

That this House welcomes the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street; pays tribute to the tens of thousands of Jewish East Enders and socialist, trade unionist, and anti-fascist allies who stood together to halt the antisemitic march of Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists; celebrates the rich cultural and political history of the Jewish community in East London; notes that the events at Cable Street remain a defining example of cross-community solidarity, which has influenced subsequent generations of East Londoners resisting racism, fascism and discrimination; expresses concern at the contemporary rise of antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism and far-right extremism in the UK and across Europe, including attacks on synagogues and mosques, and against minority communities, refugees, and asylum seekers; and reaffirms that all people have a responsibility to oppose racism, antisemitism, and intolerance in the spirit of the Cable Street protestors.
