Irish Sea herring quotas

Early day motion 2334, tabled 19 November 2025 by Jim Allister (Traditional Unionist Voice). Signed by 7 members.

That this House expresses concern over proposed cuts to Irish Sea herring quotas, which threaten Northern Ireland’s fishing communities and economy; notes that local Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute surveys show healthy stocks of the herring population in the Irish Sea; believes that the models used by ICES are flawed; calls on the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affaits to maintain a TAC of 6,000–7,000 tonnes in 2026 to protect the industry and allow time to resolve modelling issues.
