Pick-up artists and gaming

Early day motion 49, tabled 21 October 2019 by Angela Crawley (Scottish National Party). Signed by 11 members.

That this House is concerned by the practice of gaming carried out by self-titled pick-up artists throughout the UK; notes the BBC documentary, The Seduction Game, which followed self-styled pick-up coaches who discussed various techniques, including how to overcome the last-minute resistance of women to having sex; understands that the so-called game takes place when male pick-up artists harass women on the streets and post secretly filmed footage online; further notes that the seduction industry is worth an estimated £80 million worldwide, with pick-up coaches selling courses on how to sleep with as many women as possible, as quickly as possible; understands that men can book on a weekend gaming course, which can cost £1,500 and a week-long course for up to £4,000; condemns this disturbing practice; believes that this practice highlights the clear need for action to be taken to tackle gender-based prejudice and violence; deplores the outlook of men who objectify women and treat them as sub-human; further believes that tougher action has to be taken to clamp down on this appalling industry; and urges the Government to use the domestic abuse legislation currently proceeding through the House to protect women from these potentially dangerous practices.
