UN CONDEMNATION OF UK OCCUPATION OF THE CHAGOS ISLANDS
Early day motion 2425, tabled 23 May 2019 by Jonathan Edwards (Plaid Cymru). Signed by 23 members.
That this House welcomes the United Nations motion overwhelmingly condemning the occupation of the Chagos Islands by the United Kingdom; regrets the use of the Islands for military purposes for the UK and the USA, much to the concern of the Chagossian people; further regrets the use of the Islands by the USA for the purposes of rendition; notes that the bureaucracy of the UK Government has negatively affected the dispersion of necessary aid to Chagossian exiles; and urges the UK Government to honour the UN motion and withdraw from the Chagos Islands before the six-month UN deadline.
