PAT TESTING DOMESTIC ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

Early day motion 1119, tabled 26 March 2018 by Grahame Morris (Labour). Signed by 18 members.

That this House notes that at present there is no statutory requirement for landlords to PAT test electrical appliances in their rental properties; believes the appalling Grenfell Tower tragedy, which cost the lives of 71 people and left hundreds more homeless, started as a result of a faulty electrical appliance; and calls on the Government to encourage insurers to take PAT testing into account when evaluating tenanted premises to make PAT testing in rental properties a requirement and to help to prevent any similar incidents.
