CLYDE REVOLT 1919 - COMMEMORATION

Early day motion 903, tabled 31 January 2017 by Martin Docherty (Scottish National Party). Signed by 42 members.

That this House remembers the Clyde Workers Committee which sought to demand a 40 hour working week for all workers; recognises the historical, social and cultural importance of the calling of the General Strike and Clyde Revolt to seek the implementation of the 40 hour week; further recognises those who were imprisoned for their role in defending the rights of workers; calls on the Government, as it withdraws Scotland from the EU, to work with the Scottish Government to devolve workers rights to the Scottish Parliament; and recognises the profound impact on Scotland’s political, cultural and social history by Manny Shinwell, David Kirkwood and William Gallacher during the revolt, in prison and in Parliament.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 35, Social Democratic and Labour Party 3, Independent 2, DUP 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
