SELECTIVE DORSAL RHIZOTOMY (SDR) AND FUNDRAISING FOR SKYE TWYFORD

Early day motion 447, tabled 13 September 2016 by Baroness Anderson of Stoke-on-Trent (Labour). Signed by 5 members.

That this House pays tribute to the incredible funding efforts dedicated to raising £21,000 for Skye Twyford from Stoke-on-Trent to receive Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) by private healthcare; notes that SDR can help reduce the severe muscle spasticity in young people suffering with cerebal palsy, in many cases helping them to walk for the first time; regrets that this surgery is not currently available on the National Health Service (NHS); and calls on both the Government and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to urgently re-examine the case for reinstating the availability of SDR on the NHS.

Signatures by party: Labour 4, DUP 1.
