UNALIGNED DAIRY FARMERS

Early day motion 1142, tabled 24 February 2016 by Corri Wilson (Scottish National Party). Signed by 21 members.

That this House recognises the important role dairy farmers play in supplying high quality dairy products and the benefits that dairy produce brings to providing a healthy, well-balanced diet; expresses concern at the significantly reduced price unaligned dairy farmers are being forced to accept for their milk on the open market; commends the investment in, and contribution to the British countryside, generations of unaligned farmers have made; notes the rise of factory farms and the pressure these place on smaller unaligned producers; acknowledges the inequity of distributing the European Aid Package by rate of production, effectively rewarding big producers at the expense of smaller ones; and calls on the Government to work with the supermarkets and the dairy farming industry to ensure that unaligned farmers receive a fair price for their milk and are not forced out of the market.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 11, Labour 4, Plaid Cymru 2, Social Democratic and Labour Party 2, DUP 1, Liberal Democrat 1.
