INTERNATIONAL PRECEDENTS ON SECESSION BY AGREEMENT

Early day motion 948, tabled 12 January 2016 by Paul Monaghan (Scottish National Party). Signed by 27 members.

That this House recognises the findings of the Arbitration Commission on Yugoslavia that declared successor states together settle all aspects of secession by agreements; recognises that when agreement cannot be reached the presumption is that debt remains with the predecessor state; and further notes that the UK is not a signatory to the Vienna Convention on the Secession of States.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 25, Independent 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
