ROAD SAFETY AND THE SAFE SYSTEM APPROACH

Early day motion 899, tabled 16 December 2015 by Barry Sheerman (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 12 members.

That this House welcomes the internationally recognised Safe System approach adopted by Highways England for the strategic road network; notes that a clear long-term goal for no-one to be harmed on this network has been set, supported by an objective for a 40 per cent reduction in those killed and seriously injured by 2020; further notes that the Safe System also informs the leading countries in road safety in Europe and further afield in Australia, New Zealand and North America and provides a focus for more effective shared delivery of road safety results across many sectors, levels of government, business and the community and in aligned with many other societal goals; and calls on the Government to extend the adoption and promotion of this approach in road safety strategy to all roads and traffic.

Signatures by party: Labour 5, DUP 3, Social Democratic and Labour Party 2, Conservative 1, Labour/Co-operative 1.
