UNVEILING OF THE STATUE OF BASAVESHWARA ON THE ALBERT EMBANKMENT

Early day motion 716, tabled 17 November 2015 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 9 members.

That this House welcomes the unveiling of the statue of 12th Century Indian philosopher and social reformer Basaveshwara on the Albert Embankment; notes that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, unveiled this statue and paid tribute to Basaveshwara for propagating democratic ideals and gender equality; and acknowledges that this would not have been achieved but for the tireless work of Dr Neeraj Patil, the former Mayor of Lambeth, who with a team of dedicated supporters worked together over the last five years to bring this ambition to reality.

Signatures by party: Labour 4, Conservative 2, Scottish National Party 2, DUP 1.
