THE SYRIAC PEOPLE

Early day motion 554, tabled 20 October 2015 by Jim Shannon (DUP). Signed by 22 members.

That this House expresses grave concern for the Syriac people, an ancient Christian minority who faced extinction in their own homeland of Tur Abdin; notes that once again these people, many of whom only returned in recent years, find themselves caught in the middle of fighting between the PKK fighters and Turkish security forces; and implores the Government to ensure that they are not forced to flee or be murdered in their homeland.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 7, DUP 6, Labour 5, Social Democratic and Labour Party 3, Conservative 1.
