IMPLEMENTING THE LIVING WAGE
Early day motion 938, tabled 17 January 2013 by George Galloway (Respect). Signed by 16 members.
That this House notes that two independent think tanks, the Resolution Foundation and the Institute for Public Policy Research, conclude that implementing the living wage would save the Government 2 billion a year in welfare benefit reductions; and calls on the Government to legislate to implement the living wage, currently 7.45 an hour outside London and 8.55 in the capital, replacing the current minimum wage of 6.14 an hour.
