PRIVATE BENEFIT CHECK FIRMS

Early day motion 203, tabled 14 June 2012 by Jim Sheridan (Labour). Signed by 32 members.

That this House notes with concern the practices of private benefit checks firms who offer no-win, no-fee checks of people's benefit entitlement but who can claim up to half of any benefit payment or backdated money the person receives; urges improved publication of the fair, impartial and free advice provided by many local Citizens Advice offices; and calls on the Government to take action to stop the spread of these firms which prey on vulnerable people.
