CENTENARY OF THE DEWAR REPORT

Early day motion 2754, tabled 22 February 2012 by Charles Kennedy (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 10 members.

That this House notes that the Dewar Report into healthcare in the Highlands and Islands was published one hundred years ago; recognises that the report highlighted the desperate state of medical provision across the North of Scotland; further notes that the report recommended the establishment of the Highlands and Islands Medical Service, which established the right of communities to have a local, state-funded doctor; and further notes with pride that the new service acted as a model for state healthcare and led directly to the development of the National Health Service.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 6, Conservative 1, Labour 1, Scottish National Party 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
