90th ANNIVERSARY OF INSULIN USE IN TREATING DIABETES

Early day motion 2657, tabled 30 January 2012 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 27 members.

That this House celebrates this week being the 90th anniversary of the first use of insulin to treat type-1 diabetes; notes that this scientific breakthrough means that people with type-1 diabetes now have the ability to lead long and and healthy lives; is concerned that, despite this, type-1 diabetes reduces life expectancy by an average of 20 years and type-2 by an average of 10 years; and calls on the Government to ensure that effective diabetes prevention and care services are a priority in the reorganisation of the NHS.
