FINANCIAL INTERESTS OF HON. MEMBERS
Early day motion 2293, tabled 20 October 2011 by Lord Cryer (Labour). Signed by 17 members.
That this House notes that on 2 May1695 the House of Commons resolved that `the Offer of any Money, or other Advantage, to any Member of Parliament, for the promoting of any Matter whatsoever, depending, or to be transacted, in Parliament, is a high Crime and Misdemeanour and tends to the Subversion of the English Constitution'; further notes that this motion was perhaps the most decisive ruling ever made by the House of Commons on the financial interests of its Members; and believes the principles set out in this motion should be followed as part of forthcoming action on registering interests in order to restore faith in the democratic process.
Signatures by party: Labour 13, Conservative 1, Liberal Democrat 1, Plaid Cymru 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
