PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN ENGLAND AND WALES
Early day motion 1731, tabled 26 April 2011 by Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 15 members.
That this House recognises that England and Wales possess the fewest number of public holidays in the EU, at nine days; notes that this is the case despite 2011's extra bank holiday to celebrate the Royal Wedding; further recognises that no nation of the United Kingdom matches the European Union's average allocation of public holidays of 11.85; and thus furtherrecognises the need to create a new public holiday in England and Wales rather than relocate the May Bank Holiday.
