GE LIGHTING SITE, LEICESTER

Early day motion 1157, tabled 8 December 2010 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 3 members.

That this House notes with concern that, four years after the GE Lighting factory on Melton Road in Leicester closed, the problem of contaminated land has not been resolved; further notes that without de-contamination the land cannot be used for another purpose; recognises that this land may be required for housing in the city; further notes that Leicestershire is currently facing a housing shortage; and calls on the Government to encourage the long overdue de-contamination of the site and to recognise that the land should be allocated for housing.
