BBC LICENCE FEE

Early day motion 958, tabled 26 February 2010 by Nigel Evans (Conservative). Signed by 23 members.

That this House notes that the BBC has overspent by £110 million on its refurbishment of Broadcasting House, pushing the cost of its three latest building projects past £2 billion; further notes that £188 million was spent on the BBC Scotland headquarters in Pacific Quay, Glasgow, £62 million over budget; agrees with the National Audit Office that the overspend `is astonishing' and as a result of `weak governance' at the BBC; further notes newspaper reports that Adrian Chiles earns £1 million per year with the BBC; calls on the Government to introduce a sensible spending culture in the BBC; and further calls on the BBC to be transparent regarding salaries for all top talent and executives.
