TEACHER LICENSING AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Early day motion 2085, tabled 19 October 2009 by Bob Spink (Independent). Signed by 4 members.

That this House is concerned by Government plans to require teachers to be re-licensed every five years from September 2010; agrees with the National Union of Teachers that teachers must be accountable, but notes that there is no shortage of accountability criteria at present including Ofsted inspections, performance-related pay and school league tables; and therefore calls on the Government to re-consider its plans on licensing in favour of continuing professional development for teachers and headteachers.
