AFGHAN POLICE

Early day motion 1858, tabled 13 July 2009 by Paul Flynn (Labour). Signed by 18 members.

That this House is deeply concerned at the evidence that the Karzai Afghan Police Force is deeply corrupt with a record of endemic heroin abuse, brutal extortion and sexual exploitation through the foul practice of bachabazi; and welcomes the independent journalism of Reuters in reporting the statement of an elder of the Helmand village Pankela that if the police were to return and behave in the same way, villagers would support the Taliban to drive them out.

Signatures by party: Labour 12, Independent 2, Liberal Democrat 2, DUP 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
