NATIONAL POLICY FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS

Early day motion 1816, tabled 6 July 2009 by Bob Spink (Independent). Signed by 19 members.

That this House believes that a national policy to promote competition in local election contests should be adopted before the next dissolution of Parliament; further believes that this policy should include a comprehensive plan to inform the public of all local election contests; and urges the Government to introduce a mandatory code of conduct for returning officers to raise public engagement in local elections and to ensure greater consistency in the application of election law.
