DIRECT ELECTION OF THE PRIME MINISTER
Early day motion 1664, tabled 15 June 2009 by John Hemming (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 3 members.
That this House notes the control that the Executive exercises over this House and expresses concern about it; further notes the public discomfort about changes of the leader of the office of Prime Minister without public endorsement; further notes that complete separation of the estates in the constitution would require the direct election of the executive through a direct election of a Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister; and calls for this option to be considered as part of the debate about constitutional change.
Signatures by party: Independent 1, Labour 1, Liberal Democrat 1.
