NORTEL JOB LOSSES

Early day motion 1390, tabled 29 April 2009 by Sammy Wilson (DUP). Signed by 20 members.

That this House notes with regret the recent job losses at Nortel in Newtownabbey; is alarmed that the administrators Ernst and Young have ignored employment law in respect of redundancy notices and pay; further notes that £23 million has been made available for bonus payments for managers, and that £40 million is to be paid to the London Olympics which the company had agreed to sponsor; and calls on the company to ensure that workers receive their redundancy payments in full.
