AFGHANISTAN TROOP SURGE

Early day motion 734, tabled 9 February 2009 by Paul Flynn (Labour). Signed by 18 members.

That this House recalls that the surge of an extra 5,000 British soldiers in Helmand province in 2006 resulted in a surge of Taliban activity and an increase in British fatalities from seven to 143; believes that another surge could lead to further British deaths; and calls for the adoption of a peace strategy in Afghanistan.

Signatures by party: Labour 10, Independent 2, Liberal Democrat 2, Plaid Cymru 2, Scottish National Party 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
