WELSH LANGUAGE LEGISLATIVE COMPETENCE ORDER

Early day motion 680, tabled 3 February 2009 by Elfyn Llwyd (Plaid Cymru). Signed by 22 members.

That this House welcomes the publication of the Welsh Language Legislative Competence Order; congratulates everybody who has taken part in the development and drafting of this important piece of legislation; recognises that Wales is a bilingual country and that both languages deserve equal status; and hopes that there will be a speedy process through the scrutiny stages of the Legislative Competence Order and that its quick adoption will allow the Welsh Assembly Government to bring forward an Assembly Measure leading to a greater usage of one of Europe's oldest languages in a society where the rights of speakers of both languages are respected.

Signatures by party: Labour 7, Liberal Democrat 7, Plaid Cymru 3, Scottish National Party 3, Independent 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
