SEVERE WEATHER AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN LONDON

Early day motion 657, tabled 3 February 2009 by Diane Abbott (Labour). Signed by 31 members.

That this House notes that a heavy fall of snow brought London to a standstill on 2 February; further notes that this brought widespread unfavourable publicity in the international media; further notes that in the 1960s and 1970s public transport continued to run in the face of similar climatic conditions; believes that it is vital that London, as an international global transport hub, should not be shut down so easily; and calls on the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to take responsibility for this shameful state of affairs and to take steps to ensure that there is better co-ordination and the appropriate level of resources in future.

Signatures by party: Labour 26, Liberal Democrat 3, Independent 2.
