LAW RELATING TO UNMARRIED COUPLES

Early day motion 631, tabled 29 January 2009 by Andrew Dismore (Labour). Signed by 47 members.

That this House believes that the law relating to unmarried couples is in urgent need of reform because there is little or no legal protection for cohabitants on relationship breakdown; and, while welcoming the introduction of civil partnerships for same-sex couples, calls on the Government to introduce a new law to provide a safety net for couples of whatever sexual orientation who live together as its next priority.
