DINNER WITH ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER
Early day motion 548, tabled 22 January 2009 by Harry Cohen (Labour). Signed by 22 members.
That this House notes that 1,100 Palestinians in Gaza have been murdered in the recent Israeli offensive, over 400 of them children, over 5,000 were injured, 1,500 of them children, that UN-protected buildings like schools were attacked, that there was massive destruction of civilian infrastructure built up over years by aid from countries like the UK; and that there were major breaches of international law, principally the collective punishment of civilians but also the use of weapons like white phosphorus; and therefore considers that the arrangements for the Prime Minister's attendance at a dinner in Jerusalem with the Israeli Prime Minister gave the impression of endorsement of the Israeli government's actions were ill-judged.
Signatures by party: Labour 11, Liberal Democrat 8, Independent 2, Scottish National Party 1.
