AMRITSAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Early day motion 2509, tabled 17 November 2008 by John McDonnell (Labour). Signed by 15 members.
That this House appreciates the concern within the Panjabi community at the threat to Amritsar International Airport from the withdrawal of direct flights by Singapore and Jet airlines from the airport, caused partly by the imposition of high landing charges and delays in freight duty repayments; notes that this airport is important to many members of that community visiting the Darbar Sahib, Golden Temple, and Mata Vaishno Devi; and calls upon the UK Government to urge the Indian government to do all it can to secure the future of Amritsar International Airport and maintain its accessibility.
Signatures by party: Labour 9, Independent 2, Liberal Democrat 2, Conservative 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
