RIGHT TO PRAY IN A MOSQUE

Early day motion 2479, tabled 11 November 2008 by Harry Cohen (Labour). Signed by 4 members.

That this House notes the details of the bail order made by Mr Justice Mitting and countersigned by Abu Qatada, as reported on the Daily Telegraph website; notes that amongst the 22 conditions is the condition that Abu Qatada is banned from attending any mosque; can understand concern over a cleric speaking or communicating without supervision which could lead to violence, but considers that this ban on the right to attend and pray at a place of worship goes too far, is fundamentally anti-British and amounts to religious persecution; and therefore calls for this condition of Abu Qatada's bail to be revoked.

Signatures by party: Labour 3, Conservative 1.
