CROSS RIVER TRAM

Early day motion 2340, tabled 27 October 2008 by Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 28 members.

That this House believes that the Cross River Tram is a crucial piece of transport infrastructure which would begin to address the problems of one of the areas of London with the poorest transport provision; notes the vital strategic importance of the tram to the regeneration of some of London's most deprived areas; welcomes the fact that £24 million funding for the environmental impact assessment, technical assessments and consultation work for the tram is already in place and that work is underway; further notes with dismay that funding for the substantive works on the tram has never been agreed; and calls for the Secretary of State for Transport to meet representatives from the Cross River Partnership to discuss how funding for the scheme can be brought forward at the earliest possible opportunity.
