SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF ENERGY SUPPLIERS

Early day motion 1920, tabled 30 June 2008 by Desmond Turner (Labour). Signed by 55 members.

That this House congratulates the Government on its initiative to create a gateway fund for the public to access debt advice; welcomes the financial services industry's commitment to the creation of the fund; asks that the Government explains why the power supply companies, to whom many people are in debt, are not supporting this fund; and insists that they make a substantial financial commitment from their current extremely high levels of profits to the fund, failing which a windfall tax should be very seriously considered.
