RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Early day motion 701, tabled 15 January 2008 by Sharon Hodgson (Labour). Signed by 48 members.

That this House recognises that the average UK household uses 21 batteries a year, which generates 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of waste batteries of which fewer than 1,000 tonnes are recycled; believes greater steps should be taken by manufacturers, retailers and consumers to increase the use of rechargeable batteries; congratulates the Sunderland Echo and its partners Wear1 on their Recharging the City campaign; and encourages hon. Members to follow the fine example set by the campaign and promote the use of rechargeable batteries in their constituencies.

Signatures by party: Labour 27, Liberal Democrat 12, Scottish National Party 4, Plaid Cymru 2, Social Democratic and Labour Party 2, DUP 1.
