THE POST OFFICE NETWORK AND THE SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES BILL

Early day motion 153, tabled 7 November 2007 by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 59 members.

That this House believes the Government's plan to close large parts of the Post Office network are misguided and will be detrimental to thousands of communities up and down the country; and calls for a moratorium on plans to close up to 2,500 branches to allow time for the Sustainable Communities Bill to come into force which will enable local communities to make decisions based on local factors rather than having the decisions of central government foisted upon them.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 25, Labour 20, Conservative 8, DUP 2, Social Democratic and Labour Party 2, Independent 1, UUP 1.
