BBC STAFFING

Early day motion 2101, tabled 11 October 2007 by Austin Mitchell (Labour). Signed by 31 members.

That this House notes with concern that in the week beginning 15th October 2007, the BBC Director General is expected to announce significant job cuts within the corporation; notes that the licence fee settlement, announced earlier in 2007, significantly restricted the corporation's resources; further notes that the BBC has already suffered job and budget cuts and that more job losses will mean compromising the quality of service; urges the BBC management to halt its plans and consult staff on decisions regarding the future direction and priorities of the corporation; and reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the BBC's future as a world-class public service broadcaster.
