UNITARY AUTHORITIES

Early day motion 1944, tabled 18 July 2007 by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 19 members.

That this House believes that in order to be effective and valid, local government structures should reflect the communities that they serve and have the confidence of local residents; and therefore calls upon the Government to reject bids for unitary status where there is clear evidence of strong public opposition to those bids.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 11, Conservative 5, Labour 3.
