POST-16 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Early day motion 1474, tabled 15 May 2007 by Barry Sheerman (Labour). Signed by 54 members.

That this House believes that all young people should remain in education, training or work-based training; further believes that they should be equipped with the information and skills they need to best achieve their personal education, employment or training potential; therefore welcomes the bringing forward of the Post-16 Education and Training Bill, via the Private Members' Ballot, by the hon. Member for Huddersfield with cross-party support, which would allow provision for an assessment of every child in their last year of learning, for young people to have regular access to a mentor who would give guidance and advice, and for community leadership programmes to develop skills and qualifications; and supports provision for young persons with special educational needs and disabilities to encourage, enable and assist effective participation in post-16 education or training.

Signatures by party: Labour 37, Liberal Democrat 9, Conservative 4, DUP 3, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
