SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND THE 2011 CENSUS

Early day motion 1174, tabled 20 March 2007 by Stephen Williams (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 22 members.

That this House is concerned about the decision of the Office of National Statistics to omit a question on sexual orientation from the next census; welcomes the inclusion of a question on civil partnerships but does not believe that this will provide an accurate picture of sexual orientation in the UK; believes that a question on sexual orientation would help to monitor equality legislation and improve service provision to lesbian, gay and bisexual people; and urges the Government to include a question on sexual orientation in the 2011 Census.
