AVAILABILITY OF FREESAT

Early day motion 1025, tabled 2 March 2007 by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 46 members.

That this House notes the provisional approval of a Freesat service by the BBC Trust; welcomes the fact that this offers the first opportunity for the many viewers in households which have difficulty in receiving a Freeview signal, often in rural and coastal communities, to enjoy the benefits of digital television, on an affordable basis, without having to pay a subscription; and calls upon the other public service broadcasters, ITV, Channel Four, Five and S4C, to join the BBC in making their services available on Freesat.

Signatures by party: Labour 21, Liberal Democrat 18, Conservative 3, DUP 1, Independent 1, Scottish National Party 1, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
