PARLIAMENT AND QUANGOS
Early day motion 1014, tabled 28 February 2007 by Sir David Amess (Conservative). Signed by 38 members.
That this House notes with grave concern that since the Government was elected in 1997, Parliament has lost many of its powers, which have been ceded to unelected quangos; further notes that, despite the Government having promised to reduce the number of quangos, over 110 have been created since 1997; and calls upon the Government to restore the expectation that when an elector returns an hon. Member to Parliament, that hon. Member should hold the executive to account.
