REGIONAL FILM ARCHIVES

Early day motion 432, tabled 7 December 2006 by Lord Willis of Knaresborough (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 73 members.

That this House congratulates Yorkshire Film Archive, East Anglian Film Archive, North West Film Archive, Wessex Film and Sound Archive, the South East Film and Video Archive, the South West Film and Television Archive, the Northern Region Film and Television Archive and the Media Archive for Central England for their work in preserving, digitising and cataloguing moving images that record the moving image heritage of their regions' towns, cities, industries, leisure, people, cultures and traditions; notes the contribution regional film archives make to meeting the Government's key educational, cultural and economic objectives; welcomes the decision by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to produce in 2007 a coherent national strategy for the regional film archives; and calls on the Government to support the national strategy with significant increases in core funding in order to avert the very real cuts that will otherwise have to be made to the services the regional film archives are able to offer to their communities.
