NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR VICTIMS OF SLAVERY (No. 2)

Early day motion 2337, tabled 8 June 2006 by Dawn Butler (Labour). Signed by 62 members.

That this House acknowledges the atrocities suffered by Afrikan-Caribbeans as a consequence of the crime against humanity that was the slave trade; and calls on the Government to ensure that 2007, the 200th year since the abolition of the slave trade, sees the formation of a Government-funded annual UK slavery memorial day, which should be held on 25th March each year to mark the date in 1807 when the slave trade became illegal.

Signatures by party: Labour 44, Liberal Democrat 9, DUP 4, Social Democratic and Labour Party 2, Conservative 1, Plaid Cymru 1, Scottish National Party 1.
