NATIONAL TALKING NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES

Early day motion 2286, tabled 5 June 2006 by Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 63 members.

That this House notes that National Talking Newspapers and Magazines is the only service providing alternative formats of national newspapers and magazines for the UK's blind and partially-sighted population; congratulates the charity on its work to provide equal access to news and leisure for those who cannot read or have difficulty reading the printed word; is concerned that the service receives no public funding, relies entirely on voluntary donations and came close to closure during 2005 as a result of charity fatigue; and calls on all hon. and right hon. Members to support and promote the charity.

Signatures by party: Labour 30, Liberal Democrat 17, Conservative 10, DUP 3, Plaid Cymru 1, Scottish National Party 1, UUP 1.
